EMP Packs

An EMP Pack generates a large static charge in the air, scrambling electronics within a radius. Often used as safety devices in automated assembly lines.

EMP Packs are items which can be primed to detonate with an EMP blast which disables devices within a radius. The EMP blast reboots mainframe devices and Consoles, and permanently disables guards' heart monitors; devices with magnetic reinforcements are affected differently by EMP blasts. There are four “tiers” of EMP Pack; each type has a Hacking skill level requirement for the agent to use them.

When an EMP Pack is primed, it detonates at the end of the player's turn. The blast radius is shown in the user interface while priming them, and targets within the blast radius are highlighted in green; the radius is measured by Euclidean Distance. The blast also makes a noise in a separate radius of 4 tiles; the noise radius is wider than an EMP Pack I's blast radius, but narrower than the blast radii of higher-tier EMP Packs. This noise will not trigger Sound Bugs, even if they managed to avoid being rebooted by the blast itself.

Despite “detonating”, EMP Packs are reusable. In principle it is possible to prime the same EMP Pack more than once in the same turn, by recharging it using Charge Packs.

Tony's Modded EMP

The Doctor took a standard EMP Pack and installed his own easier to use operating software.

Tony's Modded EMP is a unique item belonging to Archive Dr. Xu. It is equivalent to an EMP Pack I, except it has no Hacking skill level requirement; its resale value is 300 credits.
